My name is Sam Yeates, a PhD researcher at The University of Sheffield, as part of the Advanced Metallic Systems Centre for Doctoral Training. I focus on the design of novel alloys, and the refinement of existing alloys for a range of Nuclear Fusion applications, including plasma-facing and strucutral breeder materials. My work is sponsored by UKAEA and I am co-registered at The University of Manchester. The bulk of my research entails metallic characterisaiton, specifically via electron micrscopy including SEM, FIB and TEM techniques. Coding is far from a specialiaty, but nowadays is too useful of a tool for the modern metallurgist to disgard. Outside of work I enjoy swimming and working on cars which have no right to be worked on...
I am always open to discussions surrounding collaboration, especially regarding new alloy design tools and all things EM! To reach me, please drop me an email at sfyeates1@sheffield.ac.uk
