Cloud and edge computing are key enablers of AI. To get on the path towards becoming an AI continent, the EU must ensure that its businesses and public administrations can benefit from cloud and edge computing in a secure and sustainable way. Take part in this new public consultation for the ongoing work on a Cloud and AI Development Act and a single EU-wide cloud policy for public administrations and public procurement. We seek input from a wide range of stakeholders, including cloud and edge providers, AI providers and deployers, data centres operators, public administrations at different levels, financial institutions, civil society organisations and more. Your contribution will help inform the European Commission’s preparatory work for its policy initiatives at the intersection of cloud and AI. ⏰🔗 Read more and submit your input now before 4 June: https://europa.eu/!qvgMWJ   #AIContinent #AIinEurope #DigitalEU #EUHaveYourSay

  • On 25 March, Dr. Angelika Winzig MEP chaired our breakfast debate on "AI and Connectivity: empowering AI and empowering networks", a discussion focused on the upcoming EU plans for an #AIContinent, #AI uptake and #connectivity. Here are some of the key messages: 🗣️ Angelika Winzig MEP: "If we want Europe to lead in AI, we must ensure our digital networks, the very backbone of our digital economy, are robust, secure, and capable of supporting the next wave of technological progress. AI needs connectivity." 🗣️ Matteo Quattrocchi (Cisco Systems): "AI-powered networks will help manage and support the growing connectivity needs by making communication networks more resilient, efficient, and sustainable. Policymakers have an important role to play in overcoming barriers and supporting broader digitalization goals." 🗣️ Dean Bubley (Disruptive Analysis): "Realising the full benefits of AI will require excellent connectivity within and between datacentres, and with end-users and enterprises. We need a dense mesh of interconnections to enable a resilient, vibrant, multi-model, multi-network fabric. Innovation will be hindered if we allow new bottlenecks to emerge, such as interconnect gatekeepers." 🗣️ Dr. Jakob Greiner (Deutsche Telekom): "Without #5G and fiber, there will be no European 'AI continent'. Being successful on AI requires a strong connectivity infrastructure that is capable to anticipate future demand and enable the use cases of tomorrow." Many thanks to our speakers and participants for contributing to this important conversation! 💡 Members have exclusive access to full event recordings and much more. Not a member yet? • Looking back at this week's EIF-GSMA programme for #MWC25 👉 high-level discussions at the Roundtable and hands-on experiences at the MWC25 tour. We brought EU policymakers, regulators and industry experts together, to discuss key challenges and opportunities shaping Europe’s digital future. 💬 Key takeaways from the 'Connect to Compete: Europe's competitiveness starts with connectivity' roundtable: “Connectivity is a driving force for so many businesses, and we cannot afford to get it wrong.” – Laszlo Toth, GSMA “Innovation in digital technologies is the key factor affecting productivity. Connectivity is an essential enabler for innovation and competitiveness.” – PILAR DEL CASTILLO MEP “This will be the year of action. The Commission is focused on investment, simplification, innovation, security, and democracy - but we are still far from our #DigitalDecade targets.” – Renate Nikolay, European Commission "With the move to #fiber, we are working on making our industry a lot more efficient. We should not stop promoting #competition. Competition means innovation, lower prices, better service." - Robert Mourik, BEREC Chair “The #telecom sector can shape a more connected, AI-empowered future. But we must address spectrum and overregulation to scale up.” – Ben Wreschner, Vodafone 📶 During the MWC25 tour, MEPs got a first-hand look at cutting-edge innovations, from #AI-driven connectivity to next-gen telecom solutions, reinforcing why Europe must remain competitive in the digital race. Thank you to GSMA and all our speakers & participants for making this a valuable exchange of ideas and experiences. The dialogue continues!
