Deputy Editor 

npj Digital Medicine seeks qualified individuals interested in a Deputy Editor position with the journal. The Deputy Editor will have similar responsibilities to the Editor-in-Chief but with a more focused area of oversight. Specifically, we are looking for individuals with general expertise in digital health to handle the growth in submissions in this journal. 

Deputy Editor Responsibilities: 

∙ Screening initial submissions and sending editorial rejections 

∙ Assigning manuscripts to Associate Editors who handle the peer review process 

∙ Handling appeals on manuscripts in their area of expertise in consultation with the Editor-in-   Chief and Managing Editor 

∙ Work with the Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editor on journal development including commissioning and special projects (for example, collections)

What makes a candidate suitable to be a Deputy Editor? 

∙ Active, dynamic person who is willing and able to actively engage with the journal 

∙ Able to have a good working relationship with Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editor 

∙ Subject area expertise that complements that of Editor-in-Chief 

∙ Able to take the lead on special projects like topical collections and reviewer recognition initiatives

We are looking for candidates who are influential in their field, who are active digital health experts, and who have an editorial interest in npj Digital Medicine. Associate Editor

npj Digital Medicine seeks qualified individuals interested in joining the Editorial Team of npj Digital Medicine as Associate Editors. Associate Editors for npj Digital Medicine are an essential component of the editorial team. As an Associate Editor, you would be responsible for supervising the peer-review of manuscripts submitted to the journal as assigned to you by the Editor-in-Chief. It is our expectation that an Associate Editor agrees to handle at least one new submission through peer review per week.

What makes a candidate suitable to be an Associate Editor? 

  • An active, responsive, and dynamic person who is willing and available to actively engage with the journal
  • Available to login to the submission system at least twice per week to efficiently attend to manuscript assignments
  • Able to have an effective working relationship with the existing Editorial Team and the internal journal editorial staff
  • Able to take the lead on special projects, such as Guest Editing topical collections and Reviewer recognition initiatives 
  • Interest in writing and Comments, Reviews, and Perspectives for the journal

Npj Digital Medicine Communications Editor

The ideal candidate will have a doctoral degree with experience in research as well as experience with communications and media.  We are looking for an early stage researcher to fill this role. 

Responsibilities:

  1.  Manage @npjdigitalmed X account.  Post at least daily on either new articles of interest or other topics in the digital medicine world that may be of interest to our readership. 
  2. Work as part of a team with the EIC and publisher to launch other social media properties, such as LinkedIn and Instagram.  Once they are launched, they too will require management and posting.
  3. Work as part of a team to launch monthly podcasts for the journal.  Keep an eye out for authors of exciting papers.  Invite those authors to be interviewed.  Create an interview script. Oversee post-production editing.
  4. Mentor and supervise the communications fellow.

Editorial Board Member

npj Digital Medicine seeks qualified individuals interested in joining the Editorial Team of npj Digital Medicine as Editorial Board Members. Editorial Board Members are an essential component of the editorial team. As a member of the Editorial Board, you would support the journal by acting as a peer-reviewer on 3-5 new submissions per year, and by encouraging submissions to npj Digital Medicine amongst your colleagues, when you feel it appropriate. We also hope that you would occasionally contribute suggestions for commissioned content and provide your insight and guidance to the Editor-in-Chief and editorial team on an ad hoc basis. This role does not involve direct manuscript-handling responsibilities. 

What makes a candidate suitable to be an Editorial Board Member? 

  • An active, responsive, and dynamic person who is willing and available to actively engage with the journal and act as a regular and reliable reviewer 
  • Interest in writing and submitting relevant content to the journal 

A number of variables are considered for candidates, including their publication and reviewing records, and the impact of their research on the community. We are looking for candidates who are performing relevant research, and who have an editorial interest in npj Digital Medicine. Previous editorial experience is not required but considered desirable. Previous experience writing peer reviews is required. Finally, we strive to create a diverse, international, and inclusive Editorial Team. Early Career Researchers, who have obtained a Ph.D or equivalent, are strongly encouraged to apply.
