Dissertation for the completion of a Doctorate of Science in Cybersecurity. This quantitative study explored the significance and efficacy of network security architectural recommendations documented in NIST 800-125b in preventing lateral movement attempted by cybersecurity threat actors. As organizations globally struggle to maintain a secure cybersecurity foundation, architectural choices and how they impact security posture are not always considered when migrating to or adopting cloud computing. A secure network architecture across hybrid clouds is critical to provide a foundation for layered controls to mitigate technology-based risk within an organization. This study determined the significance of NIST 800-125b guidance in mitigating threat actor lateral movement within hybrid cloud. The researcher determined the impact of different security architectures on threat actor lateral movement and established a hybrid cloud lateral movement blast radius algorithm to quantify the risk factor of lateral movement attacks within a compute environment. The result of this study provides guidance enabling the measurement, quantification and mitigation of threat actor lateral movement within hybrid cloud.

  • VMware NSX Micro-segmentation - Day 1

    VMware Press

Micro-segmentation - Day 1 brings together the knowledge and guidance for planning, designing, and implementing a modern security architecture for the software-defined data center based on micro-segmentation. VMware NSX makes network micro-segmentation feasible for the first time. It enables granular firewalling and security policy enforcement for every workload in the data center, independent of the network topology and complexity. Micro-segmentation with NSX already helped over a thousand…

Micro-segmentation with NSX already helped over a thousand organizations improve the security posture of their software-defined data center by fundamentally changing the way they approach security architecture. Micro-segmentation - Day 1 is your roadmap to simplify and enhance security within software-defined data centers running NSX. You will find insights and recommendations proven in the field for moving your organization from a perimeter-centric security posture to a micro-segmented architecture that provides enhanced security and visibility within your data center.

  • HBC5579 - How to Integrate VMware Hybrid Clouds with Your Enterprise

    VMworld 2015

Hybrid cloud services from VMware® and VMware vCloud Air™ Network Service Providers. It allows you to extend your workloads into the cloud with ease and manage it from familiar tools that you are already using. However, it is not simply just vSphere® so you will need to understand how it differs when building and maintaining workloads in a Hybrid Cloud. Migrating to a hybrid cloud or incorporating it into your overall virtualization strategy requires deep thought and heavy planning. This…

This session will help you understand why service providers offer Hybrid Clouds, understand the differences between vCenter and Hybrid Cloud, integrate a Hybrid Cloud into your management tools and migrate your workloads into and out of a Hybrid Cloud. Our goal is to help you think through how you'll need to adapt in order to facilitate your adoption of hybrid cloud.
