  • ‼️Launched today ‼️ Generative AI is being weaponised against some of the most vulnerable members of our society – our children. 🎥Our new film 'Protect Us' has been launched today by WeProtect founder, Baroness Joanna Shields OBE at the DLD conference in Munich.🎬 The film is an important wakeup call about the reality of AI -generated #childsexualabuse and #exploitation. We know what must be done to tackle this issue, but it must be a united effort by governments, tech companies, parents and educators. 🙏 Watch the full 17-minute film on YouTube now: https://lnkd.in/eZ6tY6c4 You can help raise awareness about this issue by liking and sharing the film. 💜 #ProtectUs #WeProtect

  • Great to see the latest Lantern Transparency Report from Alliance member Tech Coalition.   We know that no one actor can tackle this crisis alone, but thanks to cross-industry collaboration, thousands of pieces of child sexual abuse material and hundreds of thousands of URLs were blocked or removed in 2024.👏 The Lantern Transparency Report highlights the need to address the gaps between platforms where abuse can take place, drawing on our recent Evolving Technologies Horizon Scan report with Thorn (report linked in comments).   📰 Explore the 2024 Lantern Transparency Report ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/eYfYZQhX #onlineharms #sexualexploitation #childprotection

For too long, efforts to combat online child sexual exploitation and abuse (OCSEA) were siloed — allowing offenders to exploit gaps between platforms and across technologies. That’s why we created Lantern, a secure signal-sharing program that enables tech companies to collaborate by sharing threat indicators related to OCSEA. This cross-industry approach helps accelerate enforcement, deepen investigations, and ultimately better protect children. In 2024 alone: • Nearly 300,000 new signals shared —bringing the total to over 1 million total to date • 100,000+ accounts actioned • 7,000+ pieces of CSAM removed • 135,000+ CSEA URLs blocked or removed • Signals helped flag 81 contact offenses and 45 trafficking cases These outcomes are in addition to actions already taken by the original signal uploader, demonstrating how Lantern creates impact that would not have been possible without cross-industry collaboration. • 💬The language we use to describe child sexual abuse and exploitation online is immensely important. We were proud to participate in the launch event for The Second Edition of the Terminology Guidelines for the Protection of Children from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, hosted ECPAT International last week. Our Policy Manager Katie Burke, spoke alongside esteemed colleagues from UNICEF and INHOPE highlighting the growing scale and evolving methods of online child sexual abuse as well as the shifts in language used to describe these types of abuse over time. The guidelines are an excellent resource for everyone working in the field of child protection in digital spaces, access them below 👇 https://lnkd.in/eJCZFGiK #wordsmatter #csam #childprotection

  • WeProtect Global Alliance at the Global Age Assurance Standards Summit 2025. 💫 Hijab Siddiqui, Senior Advocacy and Policy Officer at WeProtect Global Alliance presented alongside Natascha Gerlach CIPP/E, Centre for Information Policy Leadership (CIPL) Director of Privacy and Data Policy on the Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on Age Assurance. The Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on Age Assurance initiative was launched in 2024 to drive the development and implementation of effective age assurance solutions, bringing together regulators, industry leaders, academia, and civil society through a series of events and working groups. WeProtect Global Alliance has been working closely with the stakeholder group to ensure that recommendations remain targeted on keeping children and young people safe. Instrumental in ensuring we get this right is the voice of children and young people and over the past year, we have consulted with more than 100 children and young people across 12 countries to explore what digital rights and a safe digital world looks like to them. In 2025, as we move forward with our multi-stakeholder group, we are committed to amplifying youth voices in the conversation on #ageassurance, ensuring their perspectives on technical solutions and user journeys are central to developing effective and inclusive systems. Stay tuned, as we look forward to sharing more of the findings from our collaboration with young people on #digitalrights.

Yesterday, CIPL Director of Privacy and Data Policy Natascha Gerlach CIPP/E gave a keynote presentation alongside Hijab Siddiqui and moderated a roundtable during the Global Age Assurance Standards Summit in Amsterdam. Natascha presented the work undertaken as part of the Multistakeholder Dialogue on Age Assurance together with the WeProtect Global Alliance.   Since 2024, this dialogue has brought together regulators, industry, academia, and civil society to tackle the complex challenges of age assurance, from balancing privacy and online safety to global regulatory fragmentation. Key themes included the importance of risk-based, context-aware approaches and the need for interoperable, inclusive solutions that center youth voices. We have published our key takeaways following the group’s meetings here:   During the roundtable discussion on the Interoperable Age Assurance Framework, the conversation centered on defining acceptable signals and credentials for age verification, clarifying roles and responsibilities across the online ecosystem, and the need for a shared risk taxonomy to support context-based approaches. Participants also emphasized the need to maintain anonymity and the importance of legal clarity, technical standards, and cross-sector collaboration to ensure both interoperability and broad adoption. #ageassurance #dialogue #event
