Providing age-appropriate online experiences is a key component of digital #trustandsafety. But each service’s uses differ, as do the expectations of its users, accordingly approaches to age assurance vary across services. A new DTSP report advances understanding of technical approaches to #ageassurance. It describes a range of best practices – specifically, five guiding principles for age assurance and three dozen examples of best practices in line with those principles. At times like this, it can be hard to believe in the value of #internationalcooperation, let alone see it in action. So it was extra refreshing to spend a couple of days in Fairfax at the plenary meeting of the international standards committee for information security, cybersecurity and privacy protection, ISO - International Organization for Standardization / IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) Joint Committee 1, Subcommittee 27 (ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 27). As a Liaison to SC 27, DTSP will stay abreast of the latest developments in #internationalstandards, and seek opportunities to help shape voluntary consensus based #digitalsafety standards that enhance #trustandsafety globally. Thanks to Andreas Wolf, Sobhi Mahmoud, and Laura Lindsay along with all of the working group convenors and national body representatives for making a newcomer feel welcome!

Last year Cantina Labs joined the Digital Trust and Safety Partnership, a move that made a significant difference in our efforts to place safety at the core of our platform. The DTSP's Best Practices framework has been incredibly helpful to us and I couldn't be more excited for the Spanish and Portuguese translations to become available as this will enable the impact of the practices to multiply in Spanish and Portuguese speaking communities, which are dear to my heart. DTSP is excited to unveil that its Best Practices are now translated into Spanish and Portuguese. These translations aim to broaden accessibility and foster engagement among Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking communities. By making these reports available in additional languages, digital service providers in Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking regions can effectively implement DTSP’s Best Practices, contributing to a safer and more trustworthy digital environment. At this difficult, yet critical, time for the human rights and tech community globally, GNI appreciated the space to be in community and collaborate at #RightsCon2025 at a key moment for the sector (https://lnkd.in/gsRDsZE9). Throughout the week in #Taipei, GNI staff organized, facilitated, and spoke at a number of sessions and events across four themes: improving intermediary liability in Taiwan, bridging the fields of trust & safety and human rights, advancing human rights within tech companies, and informing international policy processes. We're grateful to our members, partners, as well as the organizers, our friends at Access Now, and look forward to continuing our engagements over the coming year as we collectively navigate the evolving field of digital rights and work to ensure that human rights are protected online.
