About us

Brave is on a mission to build a user-first Web. Starting with our flagship browser and search engine, Brave shields users from the creepy ads and trackers that follow you across the web. Our browser has more than 91 million users and our search engine delivers over 1.4 billion queries per month. But we’re also changing the Web’s money model with a privacy-first digital ads platform that gives advertisers access to unreachable audiences; users earn crypto rewards for their attention; and creators unlock new revenue streams. Founded in 2015 by Brendan Eich, creator of JavaScript and co-founder of Mozilla (Firefox), and Brian Bondy, formerly of Khan Academy and Mozilla. Discover our products: Brave Browser: Fast, private browsing that blocks third-party ads and trackers by default. Brave Search: The world’s largest private search index, and the fastest growing independent search engine since Bing. Brave Ads: Unique cookie-less advertising in discreet ad units built right into the browser and search engine. Want to help build a better Web? Consider working with us!

New testing confirms that Brave for Android is outperforming the competition. 🏆 It's faster, uses less battery and CPU, and consumes less mobile data and Wi-Fi bandwidth than other major browsers. We conducted performance tests with a Google Pixel 6a using our open-source BLaDE infrastructure. In the tests, we measured Brave against four competing browsers: Chrome, DuckDuckGo, Edge and Firefox. Here's what we found 👇 Battery and CPU: Brave uses 3.9% less energy than Chrome, Edge, and Firefox and 5.5% less CPU on average. It uses 23.7% less energy and 17.6% less CPU than DuckDuckGo. On review, we found a resource management issue in DDG that we shared with its team: https://lnkd.in/eVZAQbbC RAM: Brave uses, on average, 31.1% less memory than DuckDuckGo, 9.8% than Edge, and 40.1% than Firefox. Brave's RAM usage is 4.6% higher than Chrome. This gap is mainly due to our native ad and tracker blocking. We're currently working to lower this memory usage. Page load speed: Brave consistently outperforms the other browsers in this test. Brave has the fastest overall load time distribution, and loaded over 80% of the pages in less than 2.5 seconds. Bandwidth consumed: Brave used up to 34% less inbound data and 55% less outbound data than DuckDuckGo, and up to 16% less inbound and 51% less outbound than the other browsers. Our browser minimizes data usage by blocking unwanted requests. You can read more about the performance test's results and our methodology in today's blog: https://lnkd.in/e8jJ3eAH We plan to run similar tests for desktop and iOS in the future. We'll also periodically re-run these tests to ensure Brave maintains its high performance.

Your browsing isn't private if Windows 11 is taking screenshots of everything you do. Brave will block the controversial feature Microsoft Recall by default with our v1.81 update: https://lnkd.in/eGsa5wbN Recall screenshots the user's desktop to help them search through past activity. These images are saved locally, which means that they could be seen by anyone with access to the PC. Security researchers proved that this data could be remotely stolen: https://lnkd.in/eWnq7eWY Microsoft has made some positive changes to Recall to address the privacy concerns. Giving Recall unrestricted access to users' browsing activity is still too risky, though. The best way for us to protect our users is to proactively disable this feature. Microsoft says that Recall won't snapshot private browsing windows. Brave tells Windows 11 that ALL activity in our browser is private so that even normal windows won't be screenshotted. Brave is the only major Web browser that disables Microsoft Recall by default in all tabs. If you want to use Microsoft Recall with Brave, here's how to disable this new protection: 1) Go to Settings > Privacy and security 2) Turn off "Block Microsoft Recall."

Brave collaborated with three universities on a research paper about how machine learning models can be manipulated to justify discriminatory practices. The paper also suggests a way to detect and prevent this manipulation using zero‑knowledge proofs of verified inference. The paper is being presented at the International Conference on Machine Learning today:

Did you know that "bad parties" can exploit model uncertainty to cause discriminatory behaviours? Want to learn how to enable confidential inference with proofs of well-calibratedness? Go see our paper at East Exhibition Hall A-B, # E-1002, 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. PDT (today, Wed 16 July ) #ICML2025 I could not make it to Vancouver - but Stephan Rabanser is there, don't miss chatting with him!
