Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThat we didn’t get to stay in it for longer because we underrated how great Toronto is!
!!!! Worrying about the noise of the jazz disrupting your sleep? You can’t hear it from the rooms! Anyway moving onto why this was such a great stay :). The Rex Hotel is a truly welcoming, fun, comfy, and superbly placed place to stay in Toronto. We were provided with the opportunity for early check-in, excellent daily room cleaning, clean and well-stocked facilities, comfy and attractive bedding and room decor, friendly staff, and free bag storage, all at a competitive price for this perfect area for a short stay. We don’t drive, so it was perfect to be able to walk straight into and towards both the station (for Niagara Falls) and also to be within walking distance of the CN Tower, the Toronto Harbour, Kensington and Chelsea Market, and so so much more. On top of all that we went down one night to watch some jazz and while the atmosphere was not perhaps as bustling as some of the more intimate jazz clubs out there, the musicians are truly stunning and the accompanying food/drinks are well priced and enjoyable :). Basically stay here!

United KingdomAlmost everything. We have travelled widely and usually aren’t bothered by lack of facilities or even it being ultra clean, but the negative attitude of the staff (and in particular the female receptionists and Jazz bar staff at breakfast) really out a dampener in the stay. Rather than be helpful they almost went out of their way to be abrupt and dismissive. The attitude was not just saved for us, we witnessed a very rude conversation between the waiter (who certainly didn’t want to be one) and a French lady and her son over her request for an americano coffee. We saw the receptionist FaceTiming friends whenever we went passed her and if we interrupted we’re met with rolling eyes and a ‘I don’t know’. There were NO concessions to see the Jazz which given we stayed midweek and it was not full, seemed a particularly stupid idea when we asked if we could go (or sit on the terrace) for a nightcap at 10:20 we’re net with curt NO.
Not much - the male receptionist was very helpful (all the others weren’t), and it’s a great central location, but also many other hotels in this area and next time we visit we will be booking into one of those.

United KingdomThe shared bathrooms were not particularly well kept, with cracked tiles and grimy windows. The toilet and shower were clean enough to be usable at least, but otherwise not pleasant. The whole place very much felt like a side projec to the bar - not a problem per se, just meant the quality of the stay was not that of a dedicated hotel. Felt a lot more like a hostel (again not a problem, just not what was advertised). Staff seemed quite disinterested for the most part. We met the manager (I think) as we were cheking in, who was very friendly, but otherwise most seemed reluctant to engage with us. Not mandatory, I guess, but it does make a difference to a stay.
The Rex is perfectly situated in the entertainment district. The CN Tower, Rogers Centre, Chinatown and the train station, among many other places, were in easy walking distance. The room was fine - two comfy single beds and a TV, with a washbasin so the shared bathroom wasn't needed for every little thing. I personally enjoyed the faint trills of jazz wafting up from the bar below, but I appreciate that may not be for everyone!

United KingdomSome may find the hotel a little “tired” and the rooms small….we warmed to that.
Downtown genuine Toronto; no frills genuine Jazz venue - rooms almost a side issue. Very friendly and welcoming family ownership/management. Much better experience and value than the overpriced and impersonal global hotel chains.

CanadaI am trying not to put the hotel down but just what is to be expected as we do continue to return here, You will hear sirens along with the bands playing in the bar, It was chilly for a while ,while the heater warmed up the room we also turned the heater off when we went out also closing the blinds helps keep the room more comfy. The rooms are small but we were just sleeping there for a couple of nights.& will be returning due to the price.
The location was good for us as we had an event 5min. walk . Near by parking cheap on weekends. We have stayed here a few times in the past so we know what it is too be expected.
