Lovely architecture, great restaurants, but you need to be a good walker to negotiate this hilly area. Did not realize this was a religious pilgimage town so you might get swamped by flocks of nuns and fervent catholic tours.Guest review byOden UKUnited Kingdom - 10.0

10 years ago, I drove by this city on a hill and thought that I'd like to visit it -- but my young children and spouse were not interested. Imagine my surprise when I decided to visit Orvieto based on a recommendation of an Italian I met in Chianti, and it was that same city on a hill. It looks like a fortress (and was indeed a fortress) as one passed by on the A1. Lots of history, plenty of places to eat and drink, plenty to do in a weekend here -- wish I could have stayed another night. It's a small village, people are friendly, and it is not totally ransacked by tourists. As a solo female traveler, I felt safe. I only stayed there one night and would have liked to have stayed and explored more -- another night or two. Although I am not religious, I am continuously astounded by the time, money, and effort it took to build the Duomo, and the frescoes and murals therein. I also appreciated the underground tour which provided a fascinating history of Orvieto and also respite from the hot sun in Italy in July. Orvieto is very walkable and charming.Guest review byStephanieUnited States - 8.0

The quintessential Italian village -- so much history with beautiful cobblestone streets, amazing cafes and quaint shops. We were there for a family baptism and every venue accommodated our large groups with advance planning. Completely gracious and wonderful -- I will definitely return. It's a hidden gem.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0
Terni is a wonderful city.
Terni is a wonderful city. In my opinion it's a hidden gem of Italy. It's an easy 1-hour train ride from Rome, and on the way to all the northern Italian cities. Terni Centro has almost no cars, so incredibly walking friendly, full of cafes, gelaterias, and pizza. All, with picture book old Italian architecture. Also, Terni really comes alive after 4pm!Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

We stayed one night.
We stayed one night. Julia, the hostess, was outstandingly helpful and she spoke very good English. The dinner and breakfast were particularly good. We ate dinner outdoors but in good shade from the evening sun. There is a large swimming pool which has a superb view. I highly recommend Romitorio agriturismo.Guest review byPaulUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Norcia is a town that continues to undergo extensive renovations after a significant earthquake a number of years ago. Each time we return, more and more has been rebuilt and more shops have come back to life. We can't wait to see the main church when it re-opens.Guest review byRichardItaly
