Perfect for a one night stay as a solo traveller. Michele, the host, was friendly and helpful. If you have a car you will need a parking pass. Let them know in advance. Clean, great breakfast in the morning and central to many things.

Hotel La Terraza, Assisi: A Perfect Family Stay Hotel La Terraza in Assisi is an absolute gem. We are a family of four from Argentina (my husband, two kids, and I). We had an exceptional stay, thanks to the kind hospitality and the hotel's many amenities. The hotel is impeccably clean and airy, offering spectacular bedroom views. Breakfast service was excellent, and the location is incredibly convenient, just steps from Assisi's historic center. We loved the immaculate gardens and the beautiful pool. The wellness center is a great bonus. Parking is also available. This hotel is a must-stay in Assisi. We will definitely return!

Lovely architecture, great restaurants, but you need to be a good walker to negotiate this hilly area. Did not realize this was a religious pilgimage town so you might get swamped by flocks of nuns and fervent catholic tours.

10 years ago, I drove by this city on a hill and thought that I'd like to visit it -- but my young children and spouse were not interested. Imagine my surprise when I decided to visit Orvieto based on a recommendation of an Italian I met in Chianti, and it was that same city on a hill. It looks like a fortress (and was indeed a fortress) as one passed by on the A1. Lots of history, plenty of places to eat and drink, plenty to do in a weekend here -- wish I could have stayed another night. It's a small village, people are friendly, and it is not totally ransacked by tourists. As a solo female traveler, I felt safe. I only stayed there one night and would have liked to have stayed and explored more -- another night or two. Although I am not religious, I am continuously astounded by the time, money, and effort it took to build the Duomo, and the frescoes and murals therein. I also appreciated the underground tour which provided a fascinating history of Orvieto and also respite from the hot sun in Italy in July. Orvieto is very walkable and charming.

    Terni is a wonderful city.

Terni is a wonderful city. In my opinion it's a hidden gem of Italy. It's an easy 1-hour train ride from Rome, and on the way to all the northern Italian cities. Terni Centro has almost no cars, so incredibly walking friendly, full of cafes, gelaterias, and pizza. All, with picture book old Italian architecture. Also, Terni really comes alive after 4pm!
