First of all, it’s a quintessential English pub in a valley in the beautiful midlands countryside, with great service, a friendly atmosphere, tasty food and drinks and lovely rooms. Although the pub is over 300 years old with traditional stone walls and a thatched roof, the new annex features newly built, well-appointed rooms are clean and comfortable, featuring nice furniture, ample modern electric plugs, and a lovely bathroom with coffee and tea amenities. This was an incredible location, with outstanding service, meals, and comfy rooms.

The room was spacious and clean. The beds were comfortable, and the water pressure was fantastic. I needed to work while staying there, and the table/desk was perfect for my needs. The wifi was strong, too. Even though it's near a road, the rooms were seemingly soundproof. The carpet in the room was immaculate and seemed almost new. This sounds silly, but I've got a bit of a phobia of gross hotel carpets. The shower was clean and worked well. All in all, the room far exceeded my expectations. The staff were friendly, informative, and prompt at helping. I make trips to the area regularly, and I will definitely be staying again.

If you like walking along canal paths then The Walnut Tree is the place to stay, there is about 13 sets of locks within a two mile stretch. Only a couple of miles (if that) up the road you get to Blisworth Arm and can walk into Northampton if you like walking about 4 miles. Northampton centre has plenty to offer with museums, Rennie Macintosh property, theatre plus other attractions. Althorp also is not far away.

Before attending the hotel I called the hotel to double check the spa had enough space for me and my wife and was told on two occasions on the phone before I made the payment we got there checked in went to the spa and was told the spa was at full capacity and if we come back in a hour or 2 there should be room at the spa we then went back to our room for a hour and a half then went back to the spa and was told unfortunately they are still at full capacity unhappy with this I asked to speak to the manager he came was unwilling to come up with a solution so we decided that we was gonna leave and get a refund just as we headed back to our room I went to the receptionist to get the email address I needed to complain to I told her about my situation and she immediately apologised and came up with a solution that got me and my wife in the spa in the evening and in the morning except from the start the stay turned out to be really nice had a great meal in the beautiful garden with great selection of drinks would definitely stay again if I didn’t have the same negative start

Can't really comment on Towcester as the Crown Inn is in a rural location and we did not visit Towcester itself. We enjoyed the inn's peaceful village location and the surrounding countryside. Be aware HS2 works are ongoing between Weston and the M40 although you can still access the M40 via an easy diversion

Apart from being the home of an excellent school the town benefits from being within that midland ‘belt’ of beautiful ‘golden’ stone. In the sunshine all the buildings glow. The hotel is partly built from stone rescued from Fotheringhay Castle nearby. Hence the reference to Mary Queen of Scots where she was beheaded in 1587.
