But while the city is generally safe, I would not venture upcountry where it could be dangerous. If you approach the Burmese people with dignity and respect, it will be returned in kind. Everywhere - not just in the hotel - the Burmese people are honest, earnest and caring. Sometimes people make a destination, and the people at Park Royal were fantastic. Enthused, interested and interesting. Did you know Melia hotel staff was asking me 5USD for the key card accidently lost. I told him I was not willing to pay so he checked with his manager (I could mention his name here). His manager said to me that is Melia hotel policy! WOW! I work in oil & gas industry, travel everywhere Asia America Africa Europe Australia. This is the first time the hotel staff tried to rip off. But I didn't pay, I was 100% i left my key in my room, so get a new key went up grab my key in the hotel and came back straightaway. Handed 5USD key card back to the hotel staff. After a couple of days I met the manager again and confirm "that is what Melia hotel.management is implementing ". So twp things 1 stay away from the Melia OR 2 keep your key card safe I will do the first one because I always misplace my key card. It is up to you. it's a city with lots or remembrances about the colonial times, overall in a very poor condition and in dire need of several infrastructure projects. The list of sightseeings consists of temples and markets, so... to my taste it's void. One day of walks through the city center will give you a proper taste of Yangon and there's not much left to do. Not impeccably clean. A good location. Although rather far away from downtown Yangon. But still a bustling part of the city close to Hledan Centre and Myanmar Plaza malls. The regular power cuts didn’t bother me at all. Quite a lot of street food in the vicinity, and a market and a swimming pool just three minutes away.
