To feel the historical atmosphere of the Scalo Farini district, we should go back to 1840 when Milan built its first railway line and its economy exploded. Seven freight railway yards populated the city and Scalo Farini was the biggest one, with its Warehouse and the Customs buildings that still splurge the splendour of the “golden age”. Today Farini and Isola districts feature a more urban, trendy and dynamic soul, giving life to a neighbourhood animated by art, design, fashion and knowledge workers. Located in the northern area of Milan, Isola has been redeveloped and enhanced from its previous state of suburbia. Historically working-class quarters, also because of the presence of Porta Garibaldi freight depot and industrial yards as well as light industry at Isola, the neighborhood is becoming more and more fashionable as a new bohemienne and hip area of town, preserving however the peaceful atmosphere of the old districts. The modern revival integrated well with the old Art Nouveau or rationalist style buildings, the public housing and the street art on the walls and store shutters.
