The Undiscovered Asian Capital
Capital of the Republic of China (commonly known as Taiwan), huge Taipei is surrounded by mountains. Taipei 101, once the world’s tallest building, dominates its skyline from Xinyi, an area known for the most active nightlife.
At Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall the national flag is raised every morning and the guard changed every hour. Less known for tourists is National Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, containing a tall bronze statue of the country’s founding father.
Taipei has tons of museums, but the best are Shung Ye Museum of Formosan Aborigines and the National Palace Museum – one of world’s largest collections of Chinese artifacts. Even more numerous are the temples dedicated to Buddhist, Taoist and Chinese folk religions. Xinsheng South Road is nicknamed "Road to Heaven" for its sheer number, but most famous is Longshan Temple in Wanhua, the oldest district.
Taipei shopping is fantastic and includes Core Pacific Living Mall, supposedly Asia’s largest. The Ximending area has lots of shops (and karaoke), while the Shilin Night Market should not be missed. For a break from the bustle head to central Daan Forest Park, the botanical gardens with its lotus ponds,or Yangmingshan National Park, known for hot spring baths and spring cherry blossom.
Whether you fly into Songshan or Taiwan Taoyuan Airport, the well connected public transportation system can take you to any Taipei hotel on Booking.com.

I took a one-day train rides round the Taiwan, it took me about 14 hours. Getting on from Songshan station, taking off at Kaohsiung, heading to Taidong and Hualien, and back to Songshan. Personally faces a lot of bad experiences in Taipei especially in Taipei Hospital when I went for a emergency treatment. As a tourist in a wheelchair none of the employees in hospital assist me for the treatment to until to taxi I booked after my treatment. Taipei is convenient with lots of great food and places to see, including the surrounding areas (Jiufen, Keelung, Houtong, Yangmingshan) that can easily be reached by TRA. The city is very clean and the drivers drive properly and follow the rules of the road. There is so many places to eat and the food is very good. The people are friendly but not many speak English. If I was to go again I would make sure I have a translator on my phone. I went to the Ximending Market District on a Sunday and spent most to the day there. It was well worth the time. Lots of places to shop and eat and the street preformers were excellent. I found the best toy shop I have seen in Asia. It is great for collectors. I would love to go back and explore some more inside and outside of Taipei. This was on my retirement bucket list and I was not disappointed.Guest review byBrianPhilippines
