It is a very relaxed place. People are friendly and helpful. Using NZ money makes life easy. Getting around via car or scooter is great. Loads of restaurants to chose from. West side of island has wonderful sunsets. If you haven't been to an Island Night anywhere else in the Pacific go to one for the spectacle. We loved that it is unspoilt.
We loved that it is unspoilt. No skyscrapers, no massive shopping centres, most the locals are warm.and friendly and take good care of the island and the ocean. If you need shopping and nightclubs and hustle bustle and can't do without UBER delivery, then it's probably not for you. If you want peace and quiet and relaxing and completely winding down, reading a book in a hammock, snorkelling swimming and sunbathing at beautiful beaches then this is the place for you. We loved the snorkelling, turtle snorkelling, being at the beach, absorbing cultural experiences. Eating out and buying food for home was more expensive than I had expected. Great place to go to relax.
Great place to go to relax. There is plenty to see and do if that's what you want. Or just don't do much except lie around and enjoy the surroundings. Hire a car scooter or bike. Or just use the bus which will stop anywhere it can to pick up or drop off. Te Ara museum and cafe in Muri is well worth a visit. Information is very interesting without being too much. Plenty of cafes and eating places to suit all budgets. Many with entertainment from local musicians. Local people are very helpful and friendly. Jules, our host was very helpful with bookings and tour recommendations. Still close and in walking distance to Muri Beach with all the bars, restaurants etc. but away from the hustle and bustle.
