Recognition Ceremony for the Completion of the Basel III Standardised Approach Validation Project at MB On 3 July 2025, PwC Vietnam and Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MB) jointly held a Recognition Ceremony for the Completion of the Basel III Standardised Approach Validation Project. MSB launches “ESG Strategy Development Project” in partnership with PwC Vietnam On 13 June, Vietnam Maritime Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MSB) officially launched a strategic collaboration with PwC Vietnam to develop a comprehensive ESG strategy. This initiative marks a significant milestone in MSB’s journey toward sustainable development, reaffirming its commitment to integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into its long-term growth strategy, when ESG has been identified as one of the bank’s core strategic priorities. Representing MSB at the project kick-off was Mr. Vo Tan Long - Member of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Sustainable Development Committee. From PwC Vietnam, Ms. Dinh Hong Hanh (Hanh Dinh Hong) – Partner, Financial Services Leader - will lead the consulting engagement and accompany MSB throughout the strategy development process. Through this project, PwC will support MSB in designing a tailored ESG strategy framework that aligns with the Bank’s long-term development goals, while ensuring practical applicability and effective implementation. Beyond enhancing MSB’s ESG governance capabilities, the project aims to embed ESG deeply into the Bank’s organisational culture - transforming it from a strategic priority into a core mindset that guides decision-making and daily operations. This foundation will empower MSB to drive sustainable growth and create lasting value well into the future. [PwC Vietnam’s Tax & Legal NewsBrief] New Vietnamese Capital Gains Tax rules – An update As covered in our Newsbrief last month, the new Corporate Income Tax Law, effective from 1 October, imposes a flat rate of tax on proceeds from the sale of certain Vietnamese companies by foreign corporate sellers. However, the law itself does not specify the applicable rate, so we are awaiting its implementing decree. The Ministry of Finance has just released a draft of this decree, which sets out the proposed flat rates applicable to foreign corporates. ADB, VietinBank, and PwC Vietnam Launch the Technical Assistance Activity in the Component on Capacity Development for Green Banking under the Technical Assistance: Expanding Inclusive and Climate Finance On 9th July 2025, Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (VietinBank), and PwC Vietnam launched the Technical Assistance Activity in the Component on Capacity Development for Green Banking. This component is part of the Technical Assistance on Expanding Inclusive and Climate Finance. The activity is expected to lay a solid foundation for financial institutions in Vietnam—particularly VietinBank—to gradually align with international standards in green finance, thereby strengthening internal capabilities and accelerating the sustainable transformation of the banking sector. As the selected consultant of the project, PwC Vietnam will conduct a comprehensive assessment of VietinBank’s current green finance practices, identify areas for improvement in comparison with global standards, and develop a roadmap for future green banking development. In addition, PwC will support capacity building through targeted training programs and direct technical assistance. Representing PwC, Mr. Andrew Chan, PwC APAC Sustainability Partner - underscored the central role of finance in addressing climate change, one of the most pressing challenges of our time. He stated that PwC will assist VietinBank in identifying key obstacles in implementing green finance and prioritising areas for technical support, contributing to the advancement of sustainable finance market in Vietnam. The Technical Assistance on Expanding Inclusive and Climate Finance reflects the strong partnership between leading financial institutions and advisory firms in enhancing the capacity of Vietnam’s green finance sector. More than just a technical assistance programme, the activity serves as a catalyst for transforming the financial system toward greater resilience, sustainability, and adaptability in the face of increasingly complex climate challenges.
