As part of our constant efforts to improve our products and services, we are excited to announce the revamp of Opera VPN Pro – a brand-new version of our premium VPN service to provide you with an even smoother, more privacy-enhancing, and more secure experience. 

VPN Pro is Opera’s premium VPN service, which offers device-wide protection by disguising your IP address, hiding your location, and encrypting your web traffic in up to six devices. VPN Pro is available on Opera One, Opera GX, and Opera for Android on Windows, MacOS, and Android platforms. Opera offers VPN Pro as a paid alternative to its free browser VPN service, which has a more limited set of locations and is limited to the Opera browser app. 

So what’s new and exciting about VPN Pro? Let’s break it down.

Faster connections to more locations

Our new and improved server infrastructure offers access to 48 locations worldwide. That’s 15 more countries than we had available before! This new network of powerful servers will give you faster speeds – each with a minimum of 10Gb/s connectivity, and a wider range of locations to connect through. 

More secure with the Lightway protocol

VPN Pro now benefits from improved security with the implementation of the Lightway protocol. Lightway is a next-gen VPN protocol which offers significantly improved security and reliability. It is more efficient since it contains fewer lines of code, meaning it can run faster while preserving your devices’ battery life. It uses wolfSSL, whose well-established cryptography library has been extensively reviewed by security experts, including against some of the strongest security standards such as the FIPS 140-2. Not to mention, it is an open-source protocol using Rust, a modern programming language that allows for greater transparency and performance.  

Lightway also includes default post-quantum protection against attackers by leveraging ML-KEM standards for post-quantum encryption with a hybrid key exchange mechanism. As a result, users with VPN Pro are strongly shielded from current attacks as well as future threats.

No-log policy

There are some things we are proud to keep the same, such as our no-log policy. This means that, as always, the revamped VPN Pro for mobile and desktop does not log your activity or collect personal data or other information related to your browsing activity or originating network address. As always with VPN Pro and our free browser VPN, we don’t know what you’re doing while using it, and we don’t want to know.

But we’re not stopping there! As we aim to continuously improve VPN Pro, we will be working on a roadmap that will include some much-requested features in the very near future.
