Opera for Android version 90: Revamped VPN Pro, improved Aria Answers & Bookmark Emojis
Today we’re announcing the latest version (90) of Opera for Android devices. In this version, we’ve made a few smart improvements to help you browse your way, whether that means a better and faster VPN, smarter help from Aria – our built-in AI – or just adding a little personality to your bookmarks. Here’s what’s new:
- More VPN locations, faster speeds – Opera VPN Pro has been revamped and now has more locations, giving you more options and better performance wherever you are.
- Smarter answers from Aria – Our built-in AI is getting an upgrade, delivering even more detailed and useful answers right in the browser.
- Emoji-powered bookmarks – Personalize your bookmark folders with emojis to make them easier to spot (and a little more fun to use).
Let’s get into more detail about this version of Opera for those of you who are on Android devices.
VPN Pro is new and improved
With Opera version 90 for Android devices, you get an upgrade to our premium, device-wide VPN Pro service, focusing on providing more connections and next-generation security.
More locations, better connections
We’ve expanded our server infrastructure to 48 locations worldwide, adding 15 new countries to our network. But what does this mean for you? A wider range of locations gives you more options for accessing region-specific content and services from around the globe. The new server infrastructure also provides faster and more reliable connections, with each server delivering a minimum of 10Gb/s connectivity.
Next-Gen security with the Lightway Protocol
At the heart of this upgrade is the integration of the Lightway protocol, a modern solution for speed and security. Here’s why it’s a game-changer:
- Efficiency and Speed: Lightway is built with a leaner codebase, meaning it establishes connections faster and is less demanding on your device’s resources. For users on laptops or Android devices, this translates directly to better battery life.
- Transparent and Trusted Security: As an open-source protocol built in Rust, Lightway offers greater transparency and performance. It uses the well-vetted wolfSSL encryption library to keep your data locked down.
- Future-Proof Protection: Crucially, Lightway includes default post-quantum protection. This advanced feature is designed to safeguard your data against the threats of tomorrow, including attacks from future quantum computers, ensuring your privacy is protected for years to come.
And of course, our strict no-log policy remains firmly in place.
For existing VPN Pro subscribers, the upgrade is seamless and automatic – all you need to do is upgrade to Opera for Android version 90. If you’re new to the service, you can protect up to six devices by starting a 7-day free trial today.

Get better answers from our built-in browser AI, Aria
As part of this update, we’re upgrading the answers that you get from our browser’s built-in AI, Aria. Now, when Aria detects a specific category in your chat, the response will include enhanced content, helpful suggestions, and links to additional information.
These specific categories include recipes, shopping and even gaming. So, for instance, if you’re on the go and start checking for a new product, a new recipe, or a new game to play when you get back home, Aria will give you enhanced answers about these topics.
This way, you’ll get more straightforward answers, different options to choose from – so, three different recipes, or games suggestions for example – and also hyperlinks to the specific things you’re looking for.
Add a pinch of fun to your bookmarks with emojis
Finally, with this update we’re letting you personalize your bookmark folders with emojis so they become easier to identify. This is more than just a pinch of fun to the browser – it also becomes quite useful when you have many bookmarks piled together in different folders.
To add an emoji to your bookmark folders:
- Open your Opera Browser on your Android device
- Tap the profile icon to the right of the bottom bar
- Tap the Bookmarks option
- Tap the three dots at the top right of the screen and create a New folder
- Customize the new folder with the Set emoji option
- Press the Save button
If you already have bookmark folders created, you can edit them by pressing the three dots next to the folder name, and add an emoji to them.
