FEATURE ISSUE OF BIOMEDICAL OPTICS EXPRESS
Advanced Biophotonics
Submissions Open: 15 November 2025
Submission Deadline: 01 February 2026
Biomedical Optics Express welcomes submissions to a feature issue on Advanced Biophotonics. This feature issue aims to foster broad communication within the optics community and to strengthen the bridge between fundamental research and clinical applications.
Biophotonics is an interdisciplinary field at the intersection of photonics, biology, and medicine that drives innovation in imaging, diagnostics, and therapeutics. The field is witnessing rapid advances in optical imaging, computational optics, AI integration, nanophotonics, and clinical translation. The Advanced Biophotonics feature issue will highlight recent progress in these key areas of biophotonics, including nanomaterials, AI-enabled image analysis, multimodal optical imaging systems, and advanced optical instrumentation. State-of-the-art developments and their translational significance for clinical and biological applications are of particular interest.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
- Molecular and Cellular Imaging
- Clinical and Translational Biophotonics
- Optical Tomography and Tissue Optics
- Nanobiophotonics
- Neurophotonics
- Computational Optics and AI
- Biophotonic Enabling Technologies
All submissions must present original, unpublished work and will be subject to the normal standards and peer review processes of the journal. The standard Biomedical Optics Express Article Processing Charges will apply to all published articles. To be eligible for publication, an expanded conference paper needs to add value to the original conference proceedings and the conference paper number must be included in the cover letter at submission. Please see Optica Publishing Group’s guidelines on expanded conference papers for details.
Please prepare manuscripts according to the author instructions for submission to Biomedical Optics Express and submit through our Prism submission system, specifying from the drop-down menu that the manuscript is for the feature issue Advanced Biophotonics.
