Supporting your child’s Teen Account on Facebook
Teen Accounts are currently only available in some locations. Teen Accounts are being rolled out on an individual basis, which means parents and guardians may have a teen who has a Teen Account before their other teens do.
Teen Accounts limit who can contact teens on Messenger. Learn more about Teen Accounts on Messenger.
Teens automatically get defaulted into protective teen safety settings with their Teen Accounts. There are several ways to manage these settings, depending on the age of the teen who has the account.

Supervised accounts

If supervision has been set up for your child’s Teen Account, you’ll be able to change their safety settings to be even more protective, give them permission to make their settings less protective, or approve any requests for your teen to make their safety settings less protective. You’ll also be able to set limits for the amount of time they can spend on Facebook and make other settings even more protective.
For parents and guardians of teens 13-15:

View their teen safety settings

You can manage your teen’s safety settings in Family Center, where you can approve or deny their requests to change them. Your teen will need to request your approval to change certain settings to be less protective. These settings include their teen’s audience settings and time management tools. You will be notified in your notifications tab and, if enabled, via push notification, if your teen requests to make these settings less protective.
Teens under 16 need their parent’s or guardian’s permission if they wish to update certain teen safety settings to be less protective than their current setting. Once their parent or guardian approves a less protective setting, that approval remains in effect while the teen is supervised on Facebook. Teens 16-17 can change these settings themselves, unless their account is supervised by a parent or guardian.
Note: If teens already have more protective audience and profile details setting selections than the Teen Account defaults, their settings won’t change with the introduction of Teen Accounts.

Time management settings you can manage for your teen:

Daily limit

You can limit the amount of time your teen can spend before they see a reminder to either close Facebook or are blocked from using Facebook entirely. By default, we remind teens to close Facebook after they spend 1 hour over the course of a day.
To set a daily limit for your teen’s account:
You can also choose whether your teen sees a reminder or is blocked from using Facebook when they reach their daily limit. To choose what should happen when your teen reaches their daily limit:

Sleep mode

You can mute your teen’s notifications and remind them to close Facebook during certain times of day and on certain days of the week with the sleep mode setting. You can also choose to block them from using Facebook during the days and times you choose. By default, we remind teens to close Facebook from 10 PM - 7AM every day. To adjust sleep mode for your teen’s account:

For parents and guardians of teens 16-17:
Teens 16-17 can manage their own teen safety settings if they don’t have supervision set up. You can invite your teen to let you supervise their account, or they can invite you to supervise their account, which means you’ll approve or deny their teen safety setting changes and help them balance their time on Facebook. You can also make some of their settings even more protective. Supervision on Facebook is automatically removed when a teen turns 18, unless they choose to keep it.
Note: Work with your teen to ensure they have their accurate age listed. They can view and edit their birthday in their settings if it’s not correct. Learn more about editing or adding a birthday on Facebook.
