GraphQL is suitable for querying relational data, usually for querying relational databases. The result list in SearXNG is a simple table without relations to other data objects.
This is not possible with plugins. Plugins can manipulate the items in the results list, add new ones or remove some.. but not the schema of the results list itself. Maybe you don't want to develop a client but are looking for an integration of SearXNG into another service (AI?) .. then use the JSON output. |

IMO if all you want is to get less data then you should create an intermediate backend that only return the interesting fields from the JSON API of SearXNG. By the way, public instances all have JSON output disabled, you are going to host SearXNG somewhere anyway, so hosting another backend shouldn't be an issue. |

Accessing SearxNG in low bandwith environments could be improved by providing a GraphQL api for search.
Alternatively I could just build a proxy / caching app but this would defeat the purpose of the original request.
