I understand your concern! GitHub Copilot does have privacy policies in place, and they claim that the code you write with it stays private unless shared. You can check GitHub's privacy policy and terms of service for more detailed information on how they handle your code and data. |

In this article: https://github.blog/news-insights/policy-news-and-insights/how-to-responsibly-adopt-github-copilot-with-the-github-copilot-trust-center/ Github says: "GitHub Copilot does not store or use your code for training purposes. It only uses the code context provided during your current session to generate suggestions." "Prompts are only transmitted to the AI model to generate suggestions in real-time and are deleted once the suggestions are generated. Copilot for Business also does not use your code to train the Azure OpenAI model. GitHub Copilot for Individual users, however, can opt in and explicitly provide consent for their code to be used as training data." I found this option in Settings > Copilot > Allow GitHub to use my data for AI model training . And it was disabled |

Since this is still a top search result for this topic, I thought I would add what I could find here. Based on the results below from GitHub's own FAQ, I have to assume that the Free, Pro, and Pro+ plans use my code to train their models or else these answers would not be so specific. https://copilot.github.trust.page/faq?s=v2qe7voltpwtv2usl4ikhs
This is listed on the copilot plans page in the FAQ's under privacy with the same answer, but the question is specifically different: https://github.com/features/copilot/plans
