Adding Ephemeral Messages to Monal would be a great feature.

This XEP defines a way to attach a timer value to messages which in order to specify for how long XMPP clients should store message contents. Besides that, it defines a way to synchronize common timer setting across all users of the conversation.

This is an outstanding feature. Make sure to add a disclaimer that this only works when all clients in the respective conversation support XEP-0466 to prevent a false sense of security. But that should not hold back beginning to implement the XEP.
