What problem does this feature solve?

My chart is a time series line chart. I'd like to format the xAxis label into format like "Apr 4". But i found the x-axis labels overlap when the page width becomes smaller. Also, I noticed that at the beginning of a month, such as April 1st, the x-axis label appears. I would expect the labels follows a same interval which means do not show beginning of a month separatly. Could any one please help? thanks a lot!
