Accepted Manuscripts posted online are PDF versions of manuscripts that have been peer reviewed and accepted for publication but not yet copyedited or typeset,
allowing readers the most rapid online access to accepted papers. They are published online ahead of print, subject to the
author's agreement, appearing on the Advance Online Articles
page as submitted by the authors, which does not reflect any changes that will be made before final publication. The Accepted Manuscript remains on the Advance Online Articles page until it is either replaced by a copyedited and typeset version and/or when the final version of the paper is published
in an issue.
Posted Accepted Manuscripts are available only to subscribers until 6 months after the final version is published, when they become freely available
subject to copyright/license terms and conditions, unless the author chooses the Open Access option, which ensures free availability from the time of posting. Supplemental material accepted for publication is available
only after the Accepted Manuscript online has been replaced by the copyedited and journal-typeset article.
Posted Accepted Manuscripts can be cited with their Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) as “In press,” until they are assigned to an issue, at which point
the full reference will be available.
Authors should be aware that posting of your paper as an Accepted Manuscript precludes both the journal and your institutional press office from coordinating the promotion of your research under a science
embargo and thus, we suggest careful consideration and discussion with institutional press officers.
Please note that this option is not available for all manuscripts that are accepted and is subject to the Editor's approval. Editorial considerations may preclude Accepted Manuscript posting, such as planned coordinated publication or press release or unsuitability of the accepted version of the PDF, which includes lack of data accession numbers.
