Tel Aviv University Announces Significant Steps to Accommodate Students During Rising Lion Operation
A shortened semester, reduced academic material, and postponed deadlines for assignments.
In a letter sent to students last night, Tel Aviv University Rector Prof. Mark Shtaif addressed the impact of the ongoing "Am K’Lavi" (Rising Lion) war and the widespread rocket fire across Israel, noting that these events have profoundly disrupted daily life. "We recognize that under such circumstances, full engagement in academic studies is not possible. Many of our students have been called up for reserve duty, others are experiencing significant emotional stress, and some have been directly or indirectly affected by the attacks."
Accordingly, the University has announced the following measures:
-
The academic year will be shortened by one week and will conclude on Wednesday, June 25. Course material will be adjusted accordingly.
-
The following week will serve as a break, allowing students time to rest and prepare.
-
Submission deadlines for academic assignments will be extended.
-
All classes until the end of the semester will be recorded and uploaded online, and attendance will not be mandatory.
The University emphasized that students serving in the military reserves will be entitled to additional academic accommodations, in line with the framework established at the beginning of the Iron Swords War. Each faculty has also appointed a “Reserves Liaison” to maintain personal contact with reservist students and support them as needed.
Students who have been directly affected by the rocket attacks—whether they were injured, forced to evacuate their homes, or are in close contact with someone who was injured—will receive individual support through the Dean of Students' Office under the university's wartime assistance framework.
