Trellix gained an uninterrupted, end-to-end quote-to-cash flow customer view by leveraging SAP on Google Cloud, BigQuery, and Apigee.

A fresh start for a longtime enterprise cybersecurity leader

Every minute is critical. We can't have an outage in our SAP environment. After speaking with SAP and testing different hyperscalers, Google Cloud came out on top.

Senior Director, Enterprise Technology, Trellix

Founded from the merger of McAfee Enterprise and FireEye, two leaders in the enterprise security space, Trellix has over 40 years of experience securing companies from advanced cyber threats.

Trellix customers need access to cybersecurity services, updates, and gen AI capabilities at all times, making uptime a top priority for the company. Equally important is ensuring Trellix's SAP Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Central Component (ECC) environment operates without fail. The environment supports all revenue activities, integrating with customer-facing applications that handle finance, licensing, assets, and entitlements. Any system downtime causes delays for customers trying to purchase or verify licenses.

Shortly after the merger, Trellix was still working with a legacy SAP instance that belonged to McAfee. The company needed to establish its own SAP instance, separate McAfee enterprise customers, and ingest FireEye information. The IT team decided to migrate the new instance to the cloud for higher availability and easier load balancing.

Trellix decided to move to RISE with SAP onto the cloud. After careful evaluation of the alternatives, Trellix chose Google Cloud thanks to its exceptionally low latency. Additionally, Google Cloud products and capabilities like Apigee for API management proved attractive, and ultimately accelerated Trellix's plans to transform its business-critical SAP solutions.

Reliability and scalability with Google Cloud

Trellix worked closely with the SAP Professional Services team to carve out nearly 800 GB of enterprise customer data from the McAfee SAP instance, temporarily storing it on the existing on-premises environment, and then migrating it over to Google Cloud.

With Google Cloud handling the infrastructure, Trellix no longer needs to worry about availability. Unlike the previous on-premises environment, the cloud infrastructure easily scales to meet the demands of the SAP solutions, preventing delays even if there is a flood of customers purchasing, renewing, or verifying licenses at the same time.

When supporting such critical SAP applications, downtime is always in the back of your mind. It’s great to have peace of mind Google Cloud keeps us running smoothly.

Google Cloud also handles all backups and redundancies behind the scenes, giving Trellix much greater uptime without needing to worry about disaster recovery plans. Previously, when Trellix experienced major incidents (MI), infrastructure, network, storage, and application experts came together to resolve problems as quickly as possible. Since moving to Google Cloud, Trellix has nearly eliminated downtime, freeing up staff who previously reacted to each MI to focus on more strategic work.

During the cloud migration, Trellix transformed the existing SAP solutions by adding RISE with SAP and migrating from an Oracle database to a HANA database. This was followed by a successful implementation of SAP S/4HANA BRIM that proved the versatility of Google Cloud and supports Trellix's vision of a planned update from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA on Google Cloud in the future.

After the migration, BigQuery serves as the company's data lake, also pulling in data from Siebel, two instances of Salesforce, SAP Business Warehouse, and multiple other custom applications. Having all information in one data lake provides a clear 360-degree view of customers, allowing teams to see who they are, what services they have, and when their licenses expire.

Working with BigQuery allows all teams to reduce time on reporting by accessing the same data without needing to manually pull information or maintain custom connectors. BigQuery also enables new business process innovation. For example, Trellix triggers automated renewal processes based on customer and entitlement data in BigQuery by pushing alerts to sales representatives through Salesforce when customers are ready for renewal.

Trellix has big plans for the future of its cloud environment and is already accelerating its usage of additional Google Cloud products such as AlloyDB for real-time transactional processing, Apigee for API management, and Hightouch to process data and send alerts to Salesforce.

In the future, Trellix expects to use Google Cloud AI capabilities in their SAP environment and other areas of their business.

Trellix is a global company redefining the future of cybersecurity. The company's comprehensive, open, and cloud-native cybersecurity platform helps more than 50,000 organizations gain confidence in the protection and resilience of their operations.
