Otis College of Art and Design will launch a second cohort of its Netflix x Otis Access certificate program in entertainment marketing. The first graduates completed the 20-month program in December 2024 and have embarked on exciting careers with recognized brands such as Marvel Studios and Apple, and prominent agencies including BLT Communications, Gravillis, Saylor, AV Squad, LP, MOCEAN, and Motive, among others.

The Netflix x Otis Access program successfully develops a talent pipeline and pathway into entertainment marketing through focused coursework, mentorship, and apprenticeship. Selected students receive a full-tuition scholarship that includes all required program materials and equipment. They take classes at Otis College’s thriving Los Angeles campus with instructors who are professionals in various art and design fields. At the culmination of the instruction period students are placed in a six-month paid professional apprenticeship at one of Netflix’s creative agency partners, including BLT Communications, Gravillis, Saylor, AV Squad, LP, Weller Media Agency, Inc., Eclipse Advertising, Motive, MOCEAN, and HSTL Productions. Throughout the program, students engage with prominent guest speakers and receive one-on-one mentorship with entertainment industry professionals and top art and design instructors.

“I look forward to Otis College’s ongoing partnership with Netflix. The Access program provides critical pathways to entertainment marketing careers,” says Charles Hirschhorn, President of Otis College. “At Otis, we’re committed to preparing the next generation of artists and designers for success across creative fields and we are thrilled that Netflix shares in this commitment. We hope this program will empower a new generation of creative voices to contribute to an evolving entertainment workforce.”

In its inaugural year, 18 students were selected from an applicant pool of over 300 to embark on a curriculum featuring hands-on learning in a project-based environment designed to develop a well-rounded understanding of the skills and concepts required of entertainment marketing. These included trailer editing production, digital design, illustration, motion design, copywriting, and more. In addition, students learned work processes central to the business of design and were able to customize their educational path through a range of electives as they progressed through the program.

The first cohort of graduates was honored at a special celebration hosted at Netflix’s Los Angeles offices in December 2024. Upon completing the program, participants were in high demand by industry employers:

  • 10 students are already employed part- or full-time in the industry.
  • Students were selected to attend Adobe Creative Retreat, designed exclusively for a new generation of graphic designers.
  • The Access program and students were recognized for their work at the 2024 Clio Awards.
  • An abundance of agencies have indicated interest in hiring Access apprentices, exceeding the number of students.

Recent Access graduate Kayla Mitchell says she’s ready for her next career step: “The experiences I’ve had in the program helped me develop not only as a designer but as someone who can take feedback and use it to grow. The skills I’ve gained in this program will stay with me far beyond the classroom, shaping my creative journey for years to come.”

The Netflix x Otis Access program is a model of how collaboration between leaders in art and design education and global entertainment can foster future talent and develop pipelines to thriving careers within the entertainment industry.
