As you explore cosy black-and-white worlds, you’ll snap photos of punk-rock pigeons, shy monsters and even strange cosmic cubes while completing tasks for the locals – and crafting your own story.

What we love: The odd ways to assist quirky characters. Capture a photo of a fallen asteroid for an astronomer, use your zoom lens to help a frantic lighthouse keeper spot ships in the fog or give a pep talk to a flamingo chef at the end of their rope. You’ll get stamps on your community card for helping out – but kindness is its own reward.

Quick tip: The bicycle horn you find in the seaside town of Stanhamn is good for more than just spooking seagulls. Honk it to startle a power-plant worker into tumbling into the water and to scare away the mice that have overrun a bakery. Both will check tasks off your list.

Meet the creator: Swedish indie studio Something We Made was founded by friends Lucas Gullbo and Niklas Mikkelsen, who almost gave up on their game development dreams after a few grueling university courses. Many of the cute cats and dogs in TOEM are based on the dev team’s own pets.
