The Second Lead Author Meeting for IPCC’s Special Report on Climate Change and Cities kicks off today in Mombasa, Kenya. Nearly 100 authors from over 50 countries will meet from 21 to 25 July, to work on the first draft of the report. Congratulating the African Ministerial Conference on Environment on its 40th anniversary at #AMCENat40 high-level segment this morning in Nairobi, #IPCC Chair Jim Skea highlighted AMCEN’s role in driving science-based policy approaches in #Africa and recognising the importance of delivering timely science to make it policy-relevant.

At today’s #AMCENat40 panel discussion in Nairobi titled “Paris Agreement+10: A Decade of Climate Action and the Road Ahead”, IPCC Chair Jim Skea stressed that the IPCC’s work has underpinned the Paris Agreement, including the assessment of progress towards the achievement of its goals and that IPCC stands ready to do so, in a timely manner, in the future.

Hosted by UN Environment Programme HQ in Nairobi, #IPCC Chair Jim Skea held a hybrid briefing for #UNEP staff worldwide on IPCC’s progress in its seventh assessment cycle and the scientific content of the upcoming three Working Group contributions to the Seventh Assessment Report.

Addressing the Ministerial Dialogue on the role of sustainable digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and early warning and assessments for environmental sustainability in Africa at #AMCENat40 in Nairobi this morning, the IPCC Chair Jim Skea highlighted IPCC's interest in assessing the role of artificial intelighence in developing effective responses to climate change and how AI can enhance IPCC’s capacity to assess an exponential growth in climate literature and available knowledge, including Indigenous Knowledge, local knowledge and practitioner knowledge.

Meeting Egyptian Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad at AMCEN-20 in Nairobi today, IPCC Chair Jim Skea stressed interdisciplinarity and inclusivity of IPCC work and progress in the seventh assessment cycle.

IPCC Chair Jim Skea met with South Africa’s Deputy Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment Bernice Swarts at #AMCEN-20 in Nairobi today. The meeting covered RSA’s contribution to the IPCC’s work, progress of the IPCC's seventh assessment cycle and plans for the timely delivery of IPCC reports.

A lot of interest in climate change science and IPCC work at the University of Nairobi this morning, where IPCC Chair Jim Skea is holding a public lecture titled “Assessing Climate Change: Scientific Needs for Africa and Beyond”.
